Wine & Cheese of the Week - Ram's Gate & Pierre Robert
Ram's Gate Winery
Picture from http://www.sf.eater.com/
Ram's Gate is my new meeting point between San Francisco and Napa/Sonoma. Carneros means ram, so they named this property Ram's Gate because it is literally at the very beginning of Carneros. It's definitely one of the most beautiful places I've been to lately. The tasting room is like a huge indoor/outdoor living room with cozy sofas and fireplaces. Most importantly, their wines are delicious and they have a nice sized menu of food pairings as well. Pretty much the perfect place to kick back, have a few drinks, and enjoy some truffled risotto balls...
Here's what we liked:
NV Sonoma County Sparkling Brut $30
2009 Sonoma County Chardonnay $30
Sonoma County Pinot Noit $36
2008 Parmelee-Hill Vineyards Syrah $52
2008 Winemaker's Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon $64

Pierre Robert

Pierre Robert is an amazingly decadent triple cream. It's not too strong, but has a fantastic smooth flavor. Take this one outta the fridge before serving and let it warm up to room temp so it will be at it's optimal gooey-ness. We ate it with a toasted baguette shmeared with fig jam and some sparkling wine. YUM.
